Holiday apartment in Kamenná Poruba: Church and mountain ridges

A prominent historical landmark in Kamenná Poruba is the Roman Catholic neo-Gothic Church of All Saints. It was built in 1860 on the site of an original Gothic church dating from the 14th century. As the only registered national cultural monument in Kamenná Poruba, it connects the present-day church with a much older building history. The terms Roman Catholic, neo-Gothic and Gothic belong to different descriptive levels of the same church site.

History

The written history of the village has been handed down with a specific year and a historical form of its name: Kamenná Poruba was first mentioned in 1368 in a document as Stephanburbaya. The document thus preserves the early name of the village in a form that differs from its present-day name. Alongside the church building, the first documented mention is therefore also an established part of the historical classification of Kamenná Poruba.

Nature

Kamenná Poruba lies beneath the ridges of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra. The mountain ranges form the landscape surrounding the village, while the Porubská dolina valley is a distinct geographical reference point. The Porubský potok flows through this valley. Its course continues to the outskirts of Rajecké Teplice, where the stream flows into the Rajčianka. The ridges, valley, stream and confluence are therefore each named features of the landscape around Kamenná Poruba.

Culture

Another religious landmark lies outside the village: a masonry chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk stands there on a hill in a field. Its location is next to the old field path from Kamenná Poruba to Stránske. The description thus connects the small structure with the open field, its elevated position and a historically named path between Kamenná Poruba and Stránske.

Things to do

The municipality recommends marked hiking and cycling trails for visitors. A local map covers the roads, paths and local geographical names in the immediate surroundings of Kamenná Poruba. It therefore records both traffic routes and smaller paths, as well as local names, within a limited area around the village. Access to Kamenná Poruba is via a Class III road from Rajecké Teplice through Konská. The route is thus associated with two explicitly named places and the road classification.

Tradition

At the foot of Bačíkovou skala in the cadastral area of Kamenná Poruba, a traditional outdoor mass is celebrated on the occasion of the Feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The mass takes place annually and brings together local residents, families, friends and visitors from the surrounding area. The occasion, the named location and the recurring date give the celebration a clearly defined framework. At the same time, the connection between the local feast and the people of Kamenná Poruba and the nearby area is explicitly described.
