Holiday apartment in Višňové: Karst, mountains and traditions

The Višňovská dolina is known for its karst formations. Višňové lies in the Žilina Basin at the foothills of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra and stretches for almost 4 km along the Rosinka stream through a valley. The higher parts of Višňové offer unobstructed views of the Žilina Basin; the 1,364 m-high Minčol dominates the entire area around Višňové.

The Višňovská dolina has a spring and climbing walls. Around 20 sport climbing routes were established in Višňové several years ago. The landscape also includes unprepared cross-country ski trails available in Višňové.

Activities

The best-known route to Minčol starts in Višňové and follows a blue-marked trail. Hoblík is a 934 m-high mountain in the Malá Fatra between Višňové and Stráňavy. The ascent of Hoblík can lead over a short via ferrata with two levels of difficulty; it can also be bypassed. For cyclists, the first section of the Rajecká cyklomagistrála leads from Rosina via Višňové to Turie along an asphalt road.

Culture and history

The Kaplnka Vysoké-Čákor stands in a mountainous landscape at the foothills of the Malá Fatra near a water source. It was consecrated on 25 November 1995 by parish priest Milan Gábriš. The Žulový kríž stands on a rise along the country road to the neighboring municipality of Stráňavy, between stately linden trees, and was consecrated on 27 June 1937. The Farská rezidencia is a late Baroque manor house from the second half of the 18th century. The oldest record of the venerated statue in Višňové dates from 1674.

Festivals and religious life

The Fašiangy festival in Višňové includes traditional carnival dishes. Children from the kindergarten and musicians took part in the traditional Stavanie mája; visitors also participated, and spring was welcomed together. The documented spring traditions in Višňové include decorating Easter eggs, woodworking, weaving Korbáčs, creative workshops and a folklore performance.

Every year, on the Saturday and Sunday before the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, people of faith gather in Višňové for pilgrimage celebrations. Regular Fatima celebrations take place on the 13th day of every month.

Getting there

The Višňové, konečná bus stop can be reached by bus routes from Žilina. At the end of Višňové, there is a parking area in front of the barrier at the entrance to the Višňovská dolina.
