Culture

Radenov dom is the last preserved two-storey house in Čičmany. The exhibition at Radenov dom presents all stages of life, customs, work activities and occupations, livelihoods, and the architecture of Čičmany, as well as clothing and textiles. The view of the village therefore encompasses both the lives of its inhabitants and the forms, materials and activities mentioned in the exhibition content.

Another exhibition is located in House No. 42. In the form of a diorama, it shows the type of living in an extended family that was typical of Čičmany until the beginning of the 20th century. The building was constructed in 1913 as a residential house for four families who shared an oven and a table. The chronological setting of the diorama and the year the house was built are part of the same presentation of historical living conditions. The two exhibitions focus on different aspects: Radenov dom places village life in the context of several areas and stages of life, while House No. 42 illustrates a specific form of living in a diorama dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Thus, local history and historical everyday life meet in two different forms of presentation.

The design of the wooden houses and textile work are also connected with specific origins and forms. The ornamental painting of the wooden houses in Čičmany developed from the functional protection of the wood with a lime coating. Embroidery from Čičmany was originally made from linen fabric and uses geometrically stylized Renaissance motifs such as stars and squares, as well as animal motifs. Painting and embroidery thus represent two different forms of expression that can be seen in the traditional village setting and in the textiles mentioned.

Nature

The Čičmany heritage conservation reserve comprises 136 houses. The landscape is associated with the Strážov National Nature Reserve, which lies within the Strážovské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. At the summit of Strážov, the cadastral territories of Čičmany, Zliechov and Pružina meet. The names therefore refer both to the protected natural area and to the three cadastral territories at the summit.

A mountain bike trail leads from Čičmany via Javorinka to the Sedlo Javorinky saddle. It then continues to the other side of the mountain range as far as Čičermanské sedlo. The route described therefore includes the starting point Čičmany, the intermediate point Javorinka, the Sedlo Javorinky saddle and the destination on the other side of the mountain range.

Winter

In Čičmany, six ski lifts are available to skiers and snowboarders. In addition, there are two marked cross-country trails and five downhill runs of varying difficulty. The winter sports facilities therefore include both lifts and cross-country trails and downhill runs, with the five downhill runs explicitly divided according to different difficulty levels.

During the ski season, Čičmany also offers a ski service, ski equipment rental, storage and a ski school. In addition to the facilities and trails, the seasonal offerings therefore include service, equipment rental, storage and lessons.
