The entire cadastral area of Banský Studenec has been part of the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area since 1979. Banský Studenec is also one of the municipalities in the Banskoštiavnický Geopark.

Nature

The Gajdošovo Nature Reserve is located within the cadastral area; its meadow biotopes are home to protected plant species. The Kysihýbel Arboretum is a protected forestry experimental area with stands of fast-growing non-native tree species. A total of 282 tree species, mainly from North America, were planted in the arboretum.

The nature-related topics can therefore be clearly distinguished: Gajdošovo represents protected meadow biotopes, the arboretum a forestry experimental area with special tree stands, and the geopark the overarching classification of the location. These different focal points give the landscape several identifiable levels of perspective.

Culture and History

The Baroque Kostol Premenenia Pána Church was built between 1743 and 1745 and has original Baroque interior furnishings. The wooden bell tower by the Kostol Premenenia Pána Church is listed as a national cultural monument and dates from the 1850s. The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Banský Studenec was built in 1943. In Kysihýbel there is an aqueduct built around 1870, which was constructed during the building of the narrow-gauge railway from Hronská Breznica to Štiavnica. Kolpašské malé jazero is listed as a national cultural monument.

The historical monuments represent different emphases: the church and bell tower stand for sacred architectural history, while the chapel adds another connection to the location. The aqueduct, meanwhile, makes the link to the former narrow-gauge railway visible. Kolpašské malé jazero also adds a body of water with designated cultural and historical significance.

Lakes and Trails

The Kolpašské Lakes are now used mainly for fishing, particularly the smaller lakes, while the larger lakes are used especially for summer recreation. The Kolpašské Lakes are freely accessible to the public. The path between Veľké Kolpašské tajch and Malé Kolpašské tajch has been renovated and illuminated. The Barborská cesta leads from Svätý Anton to Banský Studenec and the Kolpašské Lake. The Barborská cesta cycling route goes around Veľké Kolpašské jazero along the embankment in Banský Studenec.

The trails bring together different forms of movement and orientation: access between the two lakes, the route of the Barborská cesta and its cycling route along the embankment each create their own spatial connections. Together with the different uses of the smaller and larger lakes, this creates a juxtaposition of water, trail and landscape themes.

Trails and the Course of the Year

The Kolpašská púť takes place in Banský Studenec every year as a cultural, sporting or social event. The Kysihýbel Educational Trail begins in Banský Studenec at the western edge of the Kysihýbel Arboretum. It is a self-guided, ring-shaped hiking trail that can be walked year-round. The underground Barlangy quarry, also known as Diery, is named as a stop on the Kysihýbel Educational Trail. Visitors to the Lesnícke arborétum Kysihýbeľ are expected to announce their visit to the head of the relevant department of the Forest Research Institute in Zvolen or at the institute’s research station in Banská Štiavnica.

In addition to seasonal events, the local profile therefore includes permanent trails and named stations. The educational trail combines its location at the arboretum with a ring-shaped route and the underground Barlangy quarry, while the Kolpašská púť represents a recurring cultural, sporting or social occasion.
