A holy spring, a former church site, a protected birch grove, an artificial pond and a route through several villages each shape Roslavlsky District in a different way. Near Lugi, the spring and church site form part of a natural monument; near Vyakhori, the birch grove, pond and history of a dammed stream come together. The “Partizanskimi tropami” route, meanwhile, leads through villages and forest. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, this contrast can make it easier to decide where to start: which of these themes would you like to shape your travel plans?

Spring and church site near Lugi

The natural monument “Svyatoy kolodets Nikolaya Chudotvortsa v derevne Lugi” comprises two areas with a total of 1.7 hectares: one with the Holy Well and the surrounding grounds, and the other at the site where the “Nikolsky Khram” church stood. The total area applies to both sections combined. The holy spring in the village of Lugi was added to the list of cultural monuments of Roslavlsky District in 2001.

Birch grove and pond near Vyakhori

The name of the natural monument “Berezovaya roshcha i prud u derevni Vyakhori” refers to the birch grove and pond together. The area was designated a natural monument of regional significance in 1981. The aim of the designation was to preserve it in its natural state. The pond’s origins are also important for understanding the landscape: it is artificial and was created when the Vyakhirevka stream was dammed during construction of the Smolensk–Bryansk road.

The same stream is also known by the names Lopovka and Lapovka. Its damming during road construction contrasts with the natural monument’s conservation goal of preserving the area in its natural state.

The shoreline features are also specifically described: the pond has steep banks and shallow entry points suitable for swimming. This means the shoreline varies around the same body of water. Before swimming, check the conditions on the day of your visit.

A route through villages and forest

The “Partizanskimi tropami” route offers a different way to explore the area. It passes through the villages of Lipovka, Zharin, Prigorje and Skorokhodovo in Roslavlsky District, as well as through the Aleksandrovskoy dachi forest. Unlike the designation near Lugi, which is limited to two areas, this route follows a course through several named places and a forest area. This makes it a distinct theme alongside the spring, church site and pond landscape. This makes it a distinct theme alongside the spring, church site and pond landscape.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can start by asking what you want your trip to focus on: are you especially interested in the spring and cultural-historical connections near Lugi, the grove and the history of the water near Vyakhori, or the route through villages and forest? These themes offer different starting points for planning your stay in Roslavlsky District. Once you know what you want to focus on, you can tailor your holiday apartment search accordingly and then compare the options with your own accommodation requirements.
