Abzelilovsky District: Peaks, Salt Lake and Waterfall
Accommodation in Abzelilovsky District
Abzelilovsky District offers striking peaks, an unusually salty lake, a waterfall and a climbing rock. Each natural attraction has a different focus: the mountains stand out for their peak shapes and geology, while Lake Muldakkul is known for its distinctive water. When choosing a holiday rental, it is therefore worth first considering which landscape you want to shape your stay.
Peaks and rocks in the Irendyk Mountains
At 987 metres, Kuzguntash is the highest point in the Irendyk Mountains. Its sharp, rocky summit displays weathering formations; from there, the view extends across the Trans-Ural plains. Tagantash is one of the main peaks in the northern part of the range. It stands at 961.3 metres and is crowned by rocks about 30 metres high. The two mountains therefore differ not only in height, but also in their described summit formations.
The Kryktyau Mountains stretch across Abzelilovsky and Beloretsky Districts in the Republic of Bashkortostan. They consist of volcanic rocks, including porphyrites, tuffs and tuff breccias. The range also offers opportunities for hiking and exploration. Those interested in geology will find a different perspective on the landscape here than among the distinctive peaks of the Irendyk Mountains.
Muldakkul and Yakty-Kul
Lake Muldakkul covers 620 hectares and has been a hydrological natural monument since 1965. It is considered the saltiest lake in Bashkortostan. Its water tastes bitter and salty and is chemically classified as magnesium chloride type. Locals call the lake Tozlokul, meaning “salt lake.” Its salinity, chemical classification and local name give Muldakkul a distinctive profile among the region’s landscape features.
Yakty-Kul is located nearby. The lake has an area of 7.7 square kilometres, a water volume of 81.7 million cubic metres, a maximum depth of 28 metres and an average depth of 10.6 metres. Its average width is 1,880 metres. The Yamankaya Mountains surround the lake; Yakty-Kul lies near the village of Askarovo in Abzelilovsky District and near Magnitogorsk.
Waterfall and rocks
Mogak Waterfall lies in the southeast of the Republic of Bashkortostan, on the river of the same name, Mogak, in Abzelilovsky District. The cascade waterfall is about 20 metres high. In winter, even severe frost does not freeze the waterfall completely; the water forms unusual ice formations. Its described natural features therefore vary distinctly with the seasons.
The rock Chyortov Palets, also known as Ebey-tashy, is 41 metres high. It lies in a mountain gorge near the Bannoye resort in Abzelilovsky District and is suitable for climbing and training sessions. If you plan to visit the rock, check the current visitor conditions in advance.
In context of the Republic of Bashkortostan
Beyond the district, the Republic of Bashkortostan also offers a variety of natural and cultural landscapes. The UNESCO Global Geopark Toratau is located in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its geological outcrops include sites near Usolka and Dalny Tulkas; the landscape also features caves, waterfalls, gorges, mountain rivers and rugged rock outcrops. The geopark preserves the ruins of ancient settlements and fortresses and showcases local cultural heritage, cuisine and crafts.
Bashkiriya National Park was established in 1986 and was the first and only national park in Bashkortostan. It was created to protect the unique natural resources of the Southern Urals. The park is home to 231 bird species, 148 of which breed there; its waters contain 32 fish species. These species counts may change as surveys are updated.
When looking for a holiday rental in Abzelilovsky District, you can use your nature interests as a starting point: peaks and rocks, the salt lake, Mogak in winter or the climbing rock. Which location suits your plans depends on which of these landscapes you want to focus on. So choose the specific location of your holiday rental to match your own plans.
