Kushchevskaya’s cultural story spans its church, the history of the district museum and several memorial sites. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to start by weighing up what you want from your stay: should it focus mainly on the area’s cultural history, or would you also like to explore nature and wine in the wider destination of Krasnodar Krai?

Church, Museum and Remembrance

The Church in Honour of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian was built and consecrated in 1996. The District History Museum dates back to 1975; it was founded by teacher Semyon Mikhailovich Cherevan. The church and museum offer different perspectives on the area: the history of religious architecture and the history of the district.

Another focus is the memory of war and the contribution of the local population. The T-34 monument stands in the centre of Kushchevskaya and was erected in 1969. It commemorates district residents who contributed their personal savings to build the “Kushchevsky Collective Farmer” tank column. The “Aircraft” monument in Kushchevskaya is dedicated to the wartime deeds of aviators over the Kuban. The two memorials emphasise different things: residents’ contributions on the one hand, and the achievements of aviators on the other.

At the Eternal Flame in the Park of the 30th Anniversary of Victory, flowers were laid in memory of the heroes who fought on the battlefields of the Second World War. This act of remembrance adds another tangible connection to the area’s commemorative culture alongside the monuments.

Near Kushchevskaya, by the Don highway, is the museum and tourist complex “Field of Cossack Glory”. It includes a monument to Cossack history, a chapel and the Museum of Military Glory of the 4th Guards Kuban Cossack Cavalry Corps. There is also a watchtower, a tachanka and an ethnographic Cossack homestead. The collection brings together military-historical, religious and ethnographic themes, giving it a different emphasis from the monuments in Kushchevskaya.

Krasnodar Krai: Nature and Wine

The wider destination of Krasnodar Krai offers its own landscapes to explore. In the “Azov Spits” nature park, sea waves and currents shape spits and islands of varied outlines from sand and shells. Bird colonies of various gull, tern and cormorant species can be found year-round in shallow waters near the coast, at the tips of the spits and on sandy islands; the birds you see may vary by season. In “Anapa Spit” nature park, visitors can walk along broad, golden beaches; farther from the sea, the sand forms a series of high dunes. Another landscape feature can be found in “Taman Volcanoes” nature park: Mount Karabetova, the largest active mud volcano on the Taman Peninsula.

The “Wine Roads of Krasnodar Krai” route is another regional attraction. It presents more than 2,500 years of winemaking and wine production in Krasnodar Krai—from antiquity to the present day—through interactive exhibitions and installations, among other things. The route described passes through Anapa, Taman, Golubitskaya, Sennoy, Moldavanskoye, Novorossiysk, Abrau-Dyurso, Fedotovka and Gelendzhik. If you would like to include this route in your plans, check its itinerary and current operating status in advance.
