Belovo brings together sites commemorating mining history, a museum, an ethnic cultural complex and leisure activities in Central Park. Each destination has its own focus: a monument tells the story of miners in wartime, exhibitions explore topics including everyday life and mining, and a large Ferris wheel dominates the park’s skyline. This makes it easy to shape your stay around the subjects that interest you most.

Mining History and Remembrance

In the centre of Babanakovo in Belovo stands a monument to miners who lost their lives during the Great Patriotic War. It commemorates workers from the “Pionerka” and “Babanakovo” mines who went to the front and never returned. The figure of a soldier conveys grief and dignity; it stands as a symbol for all the miners who did not return from the war. The memorial site thus connects the history of individual mines with the fate of their workers.

Museum, Children’s Centre and Teleut Culture

The Belovo Museum and Exhibition Centre reopened after extensive renovation. The exhibits described include original household items and clothing from different eras, mining equipment and a railway barrel organ. The collection brings together a range of themes: everyday life and clothing are presented alongside the world of mining, while the barrel organ adds a distinctive exhibit to the selection. The objects on display may vary from one visit to another. Check current visiting arrangements and exhibitions in advance.

In August 2026, the city announced the opening of the “Territorija otkrytij” children’s centre at the Museum and Exhibition Centre. Children can conduct their own research, create media projects, take part in workshops and interactive programmes, and try out creative professions. The centre focuses on hands-on exploration, making it different from a visit centred mainly on the objects on display.

In Sarechnoye, within Belovo, the “Smorodinovy kraj” complex displays objects from Teleut daily life, Teleut furniture, musical instruments and traditional dolls in a yurt. The visitor experience also includes a particular gesture: guests can tie a colourful ribbon to a birch tree and make a wish. The yurt and its objects give the complex a cultural focus distinct from that of the Museum and Exhibition Centre.

Leisure in Central Park

The 6.5-hectare Central Park is near the town square and surrounded by a residential neighbourhood. It was gifted to Belovo for the city’s 80th anniversary. Its 28.4-metre-high Ferris wheel has enclosed, heated cabins and is designed to operate in temperatures as low as −20 °C. The park also has an upside-down house and various rides for children. Several different leisure activities are therefore available side by side; the information about the cabins and temperature describes the Ferris wheel’s features and operating specifications, not whether it is currently running.

Belovo and Other Destinations in Kemerovo Oblast

If you would like to broaden the focus of your stay, the wider destination of Kemerovo Oblast offers further contrasts. Tomskaya Pisanitsa is a significant rock art site in Western Siberia and a cultural monument of federal significance. People left 300 rock images at sites considered sacred; the oldest depictions are 4,000 years old. The museum-reserve covers 156 hectares of pine forest on the banks of the Tom River and, since its early years, has hosted historical, ethnographic and folkloric events and festivals.

The Shorsky National Park in Kemerovo Oblast offers a different kind of experience, with rafting on mountain rivers, motorboat trips and hikes along nature trails. The “Srednyaya Mrassu” route runs from Ust-Kabyrza to Ust-Anzas, is rated Category I difficulty and takes at least three days, depending on the weather. It is accessible to all age groups; check current park rules and route conditions before setting out. These regional examples are quite different from Belovo’s urban memorials, museums and park attractions.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Belovo, this distinction can help with planning: consider whether you want to focus on local history and exhibitions or include leisure activities such as Central Park. If you also plan to visit destinations elsewhere in Kemerovo Oblast, take their respective focus and conditions into account when planning your trip.
