Lazuri: Churches and Archaeology

The Reformed medieval church of Lazuri dates from the 16th century and was rebuilt in the 19th century. It is listed in the 2010 Romanian List of Historic Monuments. Lazuri is also home to an Orthodox wooden church from 1897.

The two churches represent different ecclesiastical traditions and historical construction phases within Lazuri. The Orthodox wooden church adds an independent sacred building from the late 19th century to this picture.

Culture

The Muzeul Județean Satu Mare displays a life-size reconstruction of a funeral pyre based on research conducted in Lazuri–Lubi Tag. The Biserica Reformată Lazuri church is located in the vicinity of Lazuri. The Biserica Ortodoxă Lazuri Orthodox church is also located in the vicinity of Lazuri. The Biserica Romano-Catolică Lazuri church is likewise located in the vicinity of Lazuri.

Thus, several specifically named churches can be found in and around Lazuri: the Reformed, Orthodox, and Roman Catholic churches. The reconstruction at the Muzeul Județean Satu Mare also establishes a connection between the museum in Satu Mare and the Lazuri–Lubi Tag archaeological site.

In Lăzări, a church festival (búcsú) is celebrated on the feast of Saint Ladislaus.

Archaeology

The Lazuri–Lubi Tag archaeological site comprises a Roman barrow necropolis, that is, a Roman necropolis with burial mounds and cremation burials. The archaeological site Situl arheologic de la Lazuri is located 3.5 km southeast of the center of Lazuri. The Lazuri–Lubi Tag archaeological site lies in the Lower Someș Plain.

The archaeological description therefore includes the Roman dating, the form of the necropolis with burial mounds, and the cremation burials mentioned there. The location specified for Situl arheologic de la Lazuri is given with a precise distance and direction: 3.5 km southeast of the center of Lazuri. The classification as part of the Lower Someș Plain additionally identifies the geographical area in which Lazuri–Lubi Tag is located.

The connection between the archaeological site and the museum remains comprehensible through the life-size reconstruction of the funeral pyre. The archaeological connection is evident both in the name Lazuri–Lubi Tag and in the independent designation Situl arheologic de la Lazuri.

The peak Vârful Oul lies in the wider regional surroundings of Lazuri. The peak Vârful Cetăţeaua is also located in these wider regional surroundings. The Măgura Izvoarelor hill lies in the wider regional surroundings of Lazuri. The La Grăniceri hill is likewise located in these wider regional surroundings.

The geographical classification therefore names two peaks and two hills in the wider regional surroundings of Lazuri. Vârful Oul and Vârful Cetăţeaua are listed as peaks, while Măgura Izvoarelor and La Grăniceri are described as hills.
