Botiz has religious buildings representing five different rites. The town's places of worship include the Romanian Orthodox Church of Botiz. It is 38 metres long and 16 metres wide, while its tower reaches a height of 37 metres. These measurements refer to this individual church building and specify its length, width and tower height exactly.

The different rites represent several denominational traditions within the same town. The churches mentioned also date from different periods: an older Greek Catholic church was built in 1886, while the new Greek Catholic church was not consecrated until 2 July 2006.

An older Greek Catholic church was built in 1886 on the border between Botiz and Osvareu. Its location connects the town with neighbouring Osvareu. Botiz also has a new Greek Catholic church. It was consecrated on 2 July 2006, thereby supplementing the town's various ecclesiastical landmarks with a significantly newer building.

A commemorative plaque installed in 1991 at the Reformed parish house commemorates the poet Szilágyi Domokos. The parish house and the plaque are just as much part of the townscape as the churches. Thus, in Botiz, religious buildings stand alongside a specific literary memorial.

History and Route

There is a tourist route in the Botiz area.

Pottery shards from the Roman imperial period originate from the Botiz area. The finds are dated to the 2nd to 4th centuries AD and indicate a settlement of the Free Dacians. Thus, in addition to the later buildings, an archaeological trace spanning several centuries of the Roman imperial period has also been preserved.

The archaeological traces and the battle belong to historical periods that are far apart. The shards are assigned to the 2nd, while the battle is dated to 20 September 1672. The imperial troops and locals involved in the engagement are also recorded.

On 20 September 1672, a battle took place in Botiz between imperial troops and locals. In the Battle of Botiz on the same day, 50 young people lost their lives. They were buried in the local cemetery. The cemetery is therefore directly connected with this historical event and the people buried there.

Geographical Location

Botiz is located on the European route E81 and is 7 kilometres from the city of Satu Mare. Satu Mare is designated as the county seat. The town's location is therefore defined by the E81 and its distance from the county seat of Satu Mare.
