Dorolț: Castle, Folk Song and Moby-Dick Pond

The Ember-Géza Castle in Dorolț was built in the Neoclassical style and belonged to Member of Parliament Ember Géza. The castle building houses the Dorolț Cultural Centre, with a library, a telecentre and a cultural centre.

The castle thus brings together a historic building, the memory of its former owner and present-day cultural facilities. The library, telecentre and cultural centre are part of the Dorolț Cultural Centre and are housed in the same building.

Culture and History

The Reformed Church of Atea is located in the municipality of Dorolț. The Gothic church dates back to the 15th century.

Alongside the castle, the Church of Atea is another historic building documented within the municipality. Its origins in the 15th century and its Gothic architecture give the area its own distinct historical character.

Music and Dance

The Vadrózsák zither ensemble was founded in spring 2017 to revive and pass on the local folk-song heritage. The Pünkösdi Rózsák folk-dance ensemble was also founded in spring 2017. Today, it consists of three age groups.

Folk songs and folk dancing are represented in Dorolț by two named ensembles. The Vadrózsák zither ensemble is dedicated to passing on the local song heritage, while Pünkösdi Rózsák preserves folk dancing and today comprises three age groups.

Festivals

The Szüreti bál begins with a harvest-wagon procession during which everyone is invited to the ball. The ball is opened by a joint folk-dance performance by the ensemble’s three age groups. The Szüreti bál takes place every year.

Pond and Fishing

Moby-Dick Pond covers six hectares of water and is an average of 2.5 metres deep. The Moby Dick fishing complex offers nine equipped fishing spots with huts.

The Moby Dick fishing complex is located within the administrative area of the municipality of Dorolț and is primarily intended for sport fishing for carp. Its focus on this type of fishing and on carp is therefore explicitly part of the offering.

The body of water therefore has both a stated area of six hectares and an average depth of 2.5 metres. The adjoining complex complements these features with nine equipped spots with huts and is designed for sport fishing with a focus on carp.

Location and Community

The municipality of Dorolț is located in the north of Satu Mare County on national road DN 19A. It is 9 km from the city of Satu Mare.

Its location can thus be defined using two specific reference points: Dorolț lies in the northern part of Satu Mare County and on DN 19A, while the city of Satu Mare is 9 km away.
