In Tupilaţi, the Biserica „Sfinții Voievozi“ was built in 1811 by the boyar Ștefan Catargiu near the boyar estate. The church has a bell tower above the pronaos. Its iconostasis is painted in the Neo-Byzantine style.
The iconostasis is part of the interior furnishings; its Neo-Byzantine decoration adds an independent artistic detail to the documented building history. Thus, the same church brings together the specific construction year, the named builder, its proximity to the boyar estate, and the visible elements of its architecture and interior furnishings.
Culture
The Tupilați Village Museum displays a traditional spinning wheel and local folk costumes. The spinning wheel stands as an individual object alongside the costumes and preserves a different aspect of local everyday life than the textile clothing. Both exhibits belong to the village’s material heritage and make different forms of traditional craftsmanship and regional dress visible.
The „Ciobănașul“ folklore ensemble preserves and passes on traditional Moldovan songs and dances. Thus, Tupilaţi’s cultural heritage encompasses not only buildings and objects, but also forms transmitted orally and through performance.
The Catargi Manor House has an upper floor. Its façade is divided into two unequal sections by a vertical glazed pavilion. The pavilion is therefore a clearly identified façade element, while the upper floor adds to the manor house’s vertical structure. The estate was surrounded by a wall made of unworked stones, which included round defensive towers from the Middle Ages. The wall, stone material and towers describe both the estate’s outer enclosure and its historical architectural features.
The different architectural features of the Catargi Manor House are not limited to the façade: the vertical glazed pavilion joins the upper floor as a structuring element, while the wall and round defensive towers describe the estate’s outer boundary. In this way, both the architectural details and the historical classification of the buildings remain recognizable within the documented ensemble.
The Catargi Manor House and its outbuildings, together with the „Sf. Voievozi“ Church in the same village, formed a unified architectural ensemble. The manor house, outbuildings and church are thereby preserved as interconnected components of the same village context. This structural relationship stands alongside the individual features of the bell tower, iconostasis, pavilion and defensive towers.
Events
The significance of the Târgul de la Tupilați dates back several hundred years. The historical reference of the Târgul is therefore among the older documented dates associated with Tupilaţi. In 1996, the „Ciobănașul“ artistic ensemble initiated the cultural event „Sărbătoarea Sânzienelor“. In addition to its transmitted music and dances, the ensemble is therefore also associated with a specifically dated cultural event.
