Piatra Teiului is a limestone cliff at the end of the Lacul Izvorul Muntelui reservoir on the Râul Bistrița. It has been designated a natural monument in IUCN Category III since 1951; today, it has the status of a geological reserve. Lacul Izvorul Muntelui, also known as Lacul Bicaz, is a reservoir on the middle course of the Râul Bistrița in Romania’s Eastern Carpathians. It is located 4 km upstream from Bicaz in Neamț County. The course of the Râul Bistrița, the Lacul Izvorul Muntelui reservoir, and the limestone cliff of Piatra Teiului meet at the lake.
Roads
The most important road connection to Lacul Izvorul Muntelui is the DN15 on the Bicaz–Poiana Largului section. The Poiana Teiului Viaduct, also referred to as the Poiana Largului Viaduct, is located on this national road. It is a road viaduct near the village of Poiana Largului in the commune of Poiana Teiului, Neamț County, and crosses the end of Lacul Bicaz there.
Culture
The “Constantin Romanescu” Zoological Museum is located in the village of Dreptu in the commune of Poiana Teiului, Neamț County. It was founded in 1927. Another historical landmark is the Galu Wooden Church: local craftsmen built it in 1818. The structure is made entirely of wood, follows the Moldavian style, and displays Transylvanian influences. The museum and the wooden church represent two different cultural settings: a zoological collection and sacred wooden architecture.
Pilgrimage
The wooden church of Mănăstirea Petru Vodă is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel and was completed in 1992. Mănăstirea Petru Vodă is accessed via a forest road branching off from the settlement of Petru Vodă. The turn-off is on the left when travelling from Poiana Largului towards Târgu Neamț. In Petru Vodă, the grave of Father Iustin Pârvu has also become a pilgrimage site.
Monasteries
In the wider regional area around Poiana Teiului are the Schitul Sâhăstria Monastery, the Mânăstirea Secu Monastery, and the Mănăstire Bistriţa Monastery. The three monastic sites complement the nearby sacred destinations with further regional points of interest.
