Bodești between Wooden Churches, Archaeology and the Cracău
Bodești offers a view of the Sfântul Ioan Bogoslov wooden church in the village of Corni. It preserves decorative elements on several parts of the building: roof brackets carved in the shape of horses' heads, twisted columns and trefoil-shaped arcades in the porch. The design combines sculptural motifs along the roof edge with vertical columns and a structured porch. The carved brackets, columns and arcades each add their own accents to different parts of the building.
Culture
The Sfântul Ioan Bogoslov wooden church dates from 1730–1734. In Bodeștii de Jos, the Sfinții Voievozi church dates from the 17th century. Another historical trace can be found in the Bodești commune: the Strâmbi archaeological settlement dates back to the 15th–17th centuries. The church building and settlement history therefore belong to different, clearly distinguishable periods. For historic churches, up-to-date information on opening hours and possible visiting times can help with planning the day. Historical dates can be taken into account before arrival when planning the timing of a cultural visit.
In the Bodești commune, four properties in Neamț County have been included in the list of historic monuments as monuments of local interest. Casa Bunicilor is a local gastronomic point in Bodești. Current opening hours for gastronomic points can likewise be checked before arrival. The opening hours of local gastronomic points can be checked in advance if a stop for a meal is planned.
The history of milling is also among the inherited traces of the Bodești commune. The commune had seven watermills and two fulling mills for woollen cloth. The mill inventory therefore includes both watermills and a use connected with the processing of woollen cloth.
Landscape
The Bodești commune lies on the banks of the Cracău River. National road DN15C, which connects Piatra Neamț with Fălticeni, runs through the commune. For journeys on a national road, current traffic information, route conditions and transport schedules can be checked before departure.
Corni Hill is part of the Moldavian Subcarpathians, is 603 m high and lies between the Bălțătești saddle and the Cracău Valley. Elevation figures and geographical classifications can be considered separately when preparing for a visit.
South of Bodeştii de Jos lies the Cetățuia Frumușica archaeological settlement, 1.5 km away, on a 20-metre terrace on the left bank of the Cracău River. For archaeological settlements, current information on possible visiting times can be checked before the visit.
Cetățuia Frumușica consists of two plateaus generally oriented from northwest to southeast. A slight depression separates the two plateaus; it may be a prehistoric ditch. The depression divides the site, but its interpretation as a prehistoric ditch remains a possibility.
