Culture

The Muzeul de Istorie și Etnografie Vișeu de Sus was opened to the general public for viewing on 1 December 2003. Using objects and images, including reproductions of documents and photographs, the history section presents a summary of local history. The material is arranged in five display cases and on nine glass walls.

Using old photographs and wooden objects, the ethnographic section of the Muzeul de Istorie și Etnografie Vișeu de Sus documents the main traditional activities of the local population: agriculture, livestock farming, forestry, the processing of hemp and wool, folk art and ceramics. Casa Elefant houses a small library with old books belonging to the former Jewish population.

The historical section combines objects and images with reproductions of documents and photographs. In the ethnographic section, old photographs and wooden objects are presented alongside the themes of agriculture, livestock farming, forestry, hemp and wool processing, folk art and ceramics. At Casa Elefant, old books belonging to the former Jewish population complement this cultural documentation.

The Centrul Documentar-Expoziţional al Nobilimii Maramureşene in Vişeu de Sus has a library with historical maps, royal diplomas, genealogical trees and other documents from bygone times.
