Culture
Coltău is home to Castelul Teleki, which houses the Muzeul Memorial „Petöfi Sándor“. The Muzeul Memorial „Petöfi Sándor“ features a documentary exhibition about the Hungarian Romantic poet Petöfi Sándor, who lived from 1823 to 1849. The museum also includes a memorial room dedicated to Sándor Teleki. The permanent Petőfi-Szendrey exhibition was opened at the Muzeul Memorial „Petöfi Sándor“ on 20 October 2023 and is entitled „Soarta m-a binecuvântat cu o iubire fericită“. Castelul Teleki is a national heritage site. The conference room of the restored Castelul Teleki presents a selection from the collection of a landscape-painting art camp. In the park, a statue group, a cornelian cherry tree, and a bald cypress add to the historical references.
History and memorials
Petőfi Sándor spent his honeymoon at Castelul Teleki in Coltău from 9 September to 19 October 1847. The park of Castelul Teleki is home to the Petőfi-Szendrey statue group by Pogány Gábor Benő, created in 1998. Petőfi Sándor’s poem „Sfârșit de septembrie“ is associated with a cornelian cherry tree in the park of Castelul Teleki. The Petőfi memorial ceremony takes place in Coltău every year on the first Sunday in September. It includes a church service, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Petőfi-Szendrey statue in the park, and an open-air cultural and artistic program. The cultural sites mentioned are therefore located not only inside the building but also in the park of Castelul Teleki; the memorial ceremony likewise uses this park for the wreath-laying ceremony and its open-air program.
