Comana – Nature, Monastic History and Adventure Park

Nature

Parcul Natural Comana is designated as a nature reserve of national interest. Covering 25,000 hectares, it is significantly larger than Balta Comana, which covers 1,206.4 hectares; around 400 hectares of Balta are permanently covered by water. Under the Ramsar Convention, Parcul Natural Comana is recognized as a wetland of international importance. It is also part of the Natura 2000 network and is designated both as a Special Protection Area (SPA) and as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).

Culture

The history of Mănăstirea Comana dates back to 1461. That year, Vlad Țepeș founded the monastery as a fortified monastery. In 1588, Radu Șerban began building a new monastery in Comana, the Mănăstirea Comana. Mănăstirea Comana is included on Romania’s list of historic monuments.

The Mausoleum of the Heroes of Comana was built in 1932 within the medieval fortress and on the grounds of Mănăstirea Comana monastery. The Comana memorial cemetery contains the graves of 516 unidentified heroes of various nationalities, including Romanians, Germans, Bulgarians and Turks.

A literary site showcases Casa memorială Gellu Naum. It is the summer house of the poet and has been preserved as it was when Gellu Naum spent his summers there.

Experiences

At Parcul de aventura Comana, the offering includes six courses for children and three courses for adults. The difficulty increases across the three adult courses. Thus, the children’s and adults’ courses are explicitly distinguished within the same adventure park.

Parcul de aventura Comana also features a treetop cascade consisting of ten zip lines. In addition, there is a 130-metre zip line over the lake. The two facilities use different measures: the cascade consists of ten interconnected zip lines, while the individual zip line over the lake has a specified length of 130 metres.

Visiting

The protected Parcul Natural Comana is open for visits around the clock, including on public holidays. The Moara de hârtie–Satul meșteșugurilor complex is scheduled to be open to visitors on weekends from April to October. For the adventure park, it is advisable to check the current opening hours before travelling. For the ten workshops, it is worth checking the current weekend dates and opening hours during the period from April to October. For the zip lines, current opening hours and applicable visiting times should be checked before the start of the journey. For the creative workshops, the current dates are also relevant if the visit falls on a weekend between April and October.
