Archaeology

West of the village of Izvoarele lies the archaeological site “La Fântână”. Isvoarele-Fântânele is classified as a settlement from the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods.

This means that both the name of the archaeological site and the designation of a prehistoric settlement are central to this location. “La Fântână” refers to the site west of Izvoarele, while Isvoarele-Fântânele is classified as a settlement from two successive prehistoric periods. The two designations preserve different parts of the traditional information about the place and its history.

Churches and History

The church “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” is located in Izvoarele. It is classified as a building of local interest and dates from 1890.

The church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” stands in Chiriacu and dates from 1902. The church “Sfântul Nicolae” from 1879 is located in Dimitrie Cantemir.

The church “Sfântul Nicolae” in Petru Rareș dates from 1885; it was rebuilt in 1938. The church “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril” stands in Valea Bujorului and dates from 1850.

Each church is associated with its own place name and year of construction. In Izvoarele, the classification as a building of local interest is also recorded. For Chiriacu, Dimitrie Cantemir, Petru Rareș and Valea Bujorului, the information gives the location of a church and its historical year. In the case of the church in Petru Rareș, the 1938 rebuilding is also part of the recorded history.

Other Places

Other places in the regional context: Varlaam, Călugăreni, Daia, Giurgiu, Banesti, Malu, Potlogi and Comana.

Lowlands and Nature

The municipality of Izvoarele lies in a lowland region. The Mănafu Forest lies west of the village of Valea Bujorului.

The Mănafu Forest was designated a forest reserve in 1954 and covers 278 hectares. Its stock consists of downy oaks, mixed with Turkey oaks, Hungarian oaks and planted acacias.

The forest therefore contains several differently named oak species as well as planted acacias. The geographical information places the forest in the western surroundings of Valea Bujorului. It was designated a forest reserve in 1954; the stated area is 278 hectares. The lowland location refers to the municipality of Izvoarele and stands alongside the separate location information for the Mănafu Forest.

Sport Fishing and Local Products

Sport fishing is possible in the Izvoarele 1 basin (Chiriacu).

The event “Ziua Comunei Izvoarele” took place on 29 September 2024 in its third edition. There was a market for local products at this event.

The market included preserves and honey. Baked goods and confectionery were also offered; pastrami, cheese and nuts were likewise available at the market.

The Izvoarele 1 basin is explicitly associated with Chiriacu, and the recorded opportunity for sport fishing refers to this basin. The event “Ziua Comunei Izvoarele”, on the other hand, is recorded with a specific date and as its third edition. Its market included both preserved foods such as preserves and honey, baked goods and confectionery, pastrami, cheese and nuts.

The local facts thus range from the classified prehistoric settlement and the churches in several named places to the forest reserve west of Valea Bujorului. They are complemented by the Izvoarele 1 basin (Chiriacu) and the event documented on 29 September 2024, with its market for local products.
