Comana Nature Park covers 25,000 hectares and is a protected area. Balta Comana covers 1,206.4 hectares, of which around 400 hectares are permanently covered by open water. Comana Nature Park is recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention and includes Natura 2000 sites designated as SPAs and SCIs.
The Romanian forest peony (Paeonia peregrina, ssp. romanica) is protected in the Padina Tătarului Reserve. Mocanu Island has vegetation and wildlife resembling those of the Danube Delta, as well as beaches and inland waters. Fishing trips can be organised on the island.

Nature
The protected area of Comana Nature Park is open to visitors throughout the year, including on public holidays. Bicycles, both conventional and electric, are permitted there exclusively on marked tourist routes, public roads, and forestry and agricultural roads open to public traffic.
Experiences
Comana Adventure Park has six courses for children and three courses for adults with increasing levels of difficulty – easy, medium and difficult – as well as a zip line over the lake and a cascade of zip lines. The Comana craft village has a traditional workshop for processing fruit and vegetables.
Culture
Comana Monastery is included in Romania’s list of historic monuments. The Gellu Naum Memorial House preserves the summer house of the surrealist poet Gellu Naum as it was during the summers he spent there.
The Drugănescu Mansion in the municipality of Florești-Stoenești was restored and converted into a museum of ethnography and folk art. Drugănescu Mansion is a historic monument dating from 1731 to 1735; the restoration is dated to 1940–1941.
The Crucea lui Mihai in Călugăreni is a monument erected in 1993 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Mihai Viteazul’s accession to the throne of Wallachia. The Giurgiu Clock Tower is 22 metres high and was built in 1734. The Sfinții Voievozi Church in Mihăilești dates from 1714 and is a historic monument of religious architecture.
The archaeological site Curtea familiei Năsturel Herescu de la Herăşti includes a palace built by Udrişte Năsturel between 1640 and 1644. This palace was built from dressed stone and has an L-shaped floor plan. Argedava is a Geto-Dacian fortress near Popești in Mihăilești and is attributed to the La Tène period.
The Dacia School Museum in Frăteşti has several departments, with the archaeology and history department predominating. It contains significant material remains attributed to the Geto-Dacians. The remaining fragments of the Giurgiu fortress are reminders of a fortress built by Mircea the Elder on the banks of the Danube in the 14th century.
Routes and Connections
Along the Danube, Via Danubiana connects embankments, forests, villages, towns and fields into a continuous route in Giurgiu County. The Friendship Bridge connects Giurgiu in Romania with Ruse in Bulgaria and carries road, rail and pedestrian traffic.
