Discover Seimeni: Fossils, Churches and History

In the northeastern part of Seimeni, on the right bank of the Danube, lies Locul fosilifer Movila Banului, a paleontological nature reserve. It is a national protected area in IUCN Category III and is considered the oldest Miocene fossil site discovered in Dobruja. Locul fosilifer Seimenii Mari is a natural monument and has been a national protected area within the territory of the Seimeni commune since 2000. It covers 0.50 hectares. The tumular and flat necropolis of Seimeni – Movila Banului (Site 36) was established around the distinctive Movila Banului hill.

Culture and History

The church in Seimenii Mari is dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr. It was built in 1904 through contributions from local residents.
