Jucu de Mijloc – History, Church and Someșul Mic

Jucu de Mijloc has been documented since 1329 under the historical name “Terra Nobilium de Suk”. The Orthodox parish of Jucu de Mijloc is located on the left bank of the Someșul Mic, 20 km north of Cluj-Napoca. National road DN 1C runs through Jucu de Mijloc.

The older place name “Jucu de Nobil (Nemeş Juc)” has been preserved in the parish archive of Jucu de Mijloc. Two seals and other parish documents are also kept there. The historical tradition is therefore reflected not only in a single place name, but also in the preserved ecclesiastical records.

History and Culture

The Orthodox church “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil” is located in Jucu de Mijloc. It was built between 1958 and 1960. The church was painted in 2007 and 2008. Archaeology

The Neolithic settlement “Aşezarea neolitică de la Jucu de Mijloc - Cantonul nr. 2” is located in Jucu de Mijloc. The find context thus identifies both the reason for the trench and the different types of finds, without separating the Neolithic settlement from its local setting.

Landscape and Finds

Near Jucu de Mijloc, an isolated find of metal objects was made in the forest between Jucu and Apahida. The find site is near the municipal boundary. The find was made on the right bank of the Someșul Mic. From Jucu de Mijloc, the Someșul Mic can be seen on foot away from the road. The river has a relatively wild character there. The forest, municipal boundary and riverbank each form part of the precise description of the find context and the local landscape.
