Culture and History

Archaeological traces in Kálbor range from the Făgetul Calborului necropolis to the archaeological site of Piscul Cremenişului. The necropolis includes individual cremation burials; grave goods include pottery, bronze fibulae, iron nails, clasps, beads, and flints. The archaeological site of Piscul Cremenişului in Calbor comprises an unspecified Neolithic settlement. The two archaeological sites have different focuses: the necropolis represents cremation burials and grave goods, while the site represents a Neolithic settlement.

Churches

The Biserica Ortodoxă Sfânta Parascheva church is located in the vicinity of Calbor. The Biserica Ortodoxă Sfântul Gheorghe is also located in the vicinity of Calbor. The Biserica Naşterea Maicii Domnului is likewise located in the vicinity of Calbor. The Biserica Sâmbăta de Jos is also located in the vicinity of Calbor. The Biserica Sf. Arhangheli is located in Calbor. Its interior was painted in 1813 by Sava de la Făgăraş. The church building was constructed between 1802 and 1806 from stone and bricks in the shape of a ship; a tower stands above the entrance. The masonry iconostasis and the nave of the church were painted in 1813 by Sava Zugravul. The altar paintings and the front side of the wall between the pronaos and the nave were executed in 1825 by Petru Zugravul. At the Biserica Sf. Arhangheli, the construction period from 1802 to 1806 was followed by the paintings of 1813 and 1825. The architectural form and interior furnishings originate from several phases of work. The paintings are distributed across several interior areas; together with the architectural form, they make the church's various phases of work visible.

Tradition and Everyday Life

Every winter, young people return from the city to Calbor to organize the tradition of Ceata de feciori. In Calbor, women continue to bake bread in old, soot-blackened ovens. For winter customs, event dates and times should be checked before the journey.

At the same level as Kálbor are also Predeluț, Cheia, Bran, Șirnea, Codlea, Petersberg, Tărlungeni and Săcele.

Landscape

Calbor is surrounded by hilly landscapes where flocks of sheep can occasionally be seen. The hill Dealul Galaţi is located in the vicinity of Calbor. The hill Dealul Netotului is in the same vicinity. The hill Dealul Dumbrăvii is also located in the vicinity of Calbor. The Runcu peak is located in the wider regional surroundings of Calbor. The three hills mentioned therefore belong to the immediate surroundings, while Runcu is assigned to a broader regional level.

Cycling

The Făgăraş–Dealul Rodbav–Făgăraş cycling route crosses a hill near Calbor. Before setting out on the cycling route, it is advisable to check the current route conditions.
