Discover Săcele: Gorge, Mountains and Sântilia
Landscape and Mountains
A mountain hiking trail leads from Săcele over Mount Bunloc to the Piatra Mare mountain hut and onward to the summit of Piatra Mare. Bunloc reaches a maximum elevation of 1,185 m, while the Piatra Mare summit in the Piatra Mare Massif has a maximum elevation of 1,844 m. The route connects the mountain, hut and summit in one continuous hiking sequence. During mountain hikes, elevation figures can be taken into account as planning values before setting out.
The Canionul 7 Scări gorge is 160 m long and cut into Jurassic limestone. The difference in elevation between its beginning and end is 58 m. The 7 Scări stream runs through the gorge; seven metal ladders, ranging in height from 2.5 to 15 m, lead through it. At these ladders, the water turns into waterfalls, so rock, stream, metal and falling water are closely interconnected. Preparing for a walk through the gorge may include checking current information about trail conditions.
The Piatra Mare Massif is also home to the Peștera de Gheață ice cave, which is one of the massif’s important tourist destinations. The Piatra Mare summit and the ice cave are therefore located within the same named mountain area, while Bunloc stands out as a separate mountain with a lower maximum elevation.
Activities and Access
The “7 Scări” zip line is over 3.5 km long. Mount Bunloc also has areas that are particularly sought after and appreciated by paragliders. Zip-lining and paragliding represent different focuses among the activities mentioned. The current operating hours should be checked before visiting the zip line. A stated route length is part of the usual preparation for planning the day’s activities. For a zip line, checking the current operating hours before visiting is a usual preparatory step.
The main access route to the Canionul 7 Scări gorge leads from Dâmbul Morii via the DN1 national road, following the yellow trail marking. Dâmbul Morii, DN1 and the yellow marking are part of this expressly named access route. When hiking to the gorge, it is advisable to check current information about trail conditions and markings before setting out.
