Nature and History
Peștera Urșilor comprises three galleries open to visitors. Visiting them is organised and possible with a guide. The three areas have their own names and display different features of the cave. In the Galeria Oaselor, numerous cave bear bones can be viewed. They can be seen as they were found. This makes the gallery one of the cave’s particularly distinctive areas, without the bones having been removed from their original archaeological context. The Galeria Emil Racoviță contains stalactites, stalagmites and columns. These differ in shape and size. In the Galeria Lumânărilor, the focus is on formations that resemble candles and give the gallery its name.
The development works at Peștera Urșilor were completed in 1978. On 14 July 1980, the cave was inaugurated and opened for tourist operations. Its history thus combines the natural features of the three galleries with a clearly dated development for visitor access.
Location and Directions
At the edge of Chișcău, Peștera Urșilor lies in the direction of the village of Giulesti and the Păstrăvăria Chișcău. The cave can be reached via the DN 76 to Sudrigiu. This road is also designated as the E79. The DJ 763 then continues onward. The location details and sequence of roads therefore name both the starting point in Chișcău and the subsequent connection via Sudrigiu.
The cave lies at the edge of Chișcău; route CA ends in the village of Chișcău. Sudrigiu marks the transition from the DN 76 or E79 to the DJ 763.
