Nature and Landscape
Ineu lies at the transition from the Crișul Alb Depression to the Crișurilor Plain. Ineu’s dendrological park covers twelve hectares and combines an extensive parkland with distinctive features. It contains a yew tree said to be more than 600 years old. There is also a group of statues featuring works by sculptors from the Ineu 1988 creative camp. The park is also a stop on the Ineu–Târnova–Căsoaia tourist route. Landscape, art and a designated route stop are therefore all located within the same grounds.
Other places at the same level include: Bata, Curtici, Galșa, Hălmăgel, Vinga, Şilindia, Ghioroc and Fântânele.
Parks in the Surrounding Area
Ineu’s city park, formerly called Parcul 1 Mai, was laid out between 1805 and 1818. In Mocrea lies the Ansamblul Castelului Solymosy, two kilometres from Ineu and below Dealul Mocrii. This ensemble includes a six-hectare dendrological park with rare tree species. The city park and the parkland in Mocrea thus differ in their period of creation, location and tree population.
History and Architectural Heritage
Ineu has been documented since 1214 under the name villa Ieneu. Ineu Fortress was first mentioned in 1295. Its inner section is a two-storey, square castle. The walls of Ineu Fortress were bordered by moats on three sides and by the Crișul Alb River on the fourth. A historical examination therefore includes both the town’s early documented mention and the fortress’s architectural form and distinctive boundaries.
Culture and Exhibitions
The wooden church “Izvorul Tămăduirii” in Ineu was consecrated on 9 October 2016. The wooden church is regarded as a monument of unique art and architecture in western Romania. The Muzeul Țării Zarandului was established in the former building of Ineu’s primary school. Its three exhibition rooms cover local crafts and handicrafts, fine arts, and history. Historical exhibits include photographs from the period of the two world wars, newspaper pages and manuscripts from various eras. The museum tour therefore ranges from craftwork and art to written and photographic records.
Other Experiences
Tărâmul Animalelor in Ineu is presented as an interactive zoo. At Balta Dina, the two ponds differ in terms of the type of fishing specified for each one. The first pond offers fishing for carp, grass carp, silver carp, silver carp hybrids and crucian carp; the second pond is dedicated to spinning for pike. The two ponds therefore represent different forms of fishing and different target species. Fishing times and applicable conditions should be checked before travelling. The cultural event “Cetatea Ineului – Tradiții și Perspective” was listed for 21 July in Ineu; the event date and times can be checked again before arrival.
