At the foot of the Zărand Mountains lies Ghioroc Lake. The body of water covers 66 hectares and is up to 10 metres deep.

Its location directly connects the expanse of water with the landscape at the edge of the mountains. As a result, Ghioroc features a clearly defined body of water alongside other historic and cultural sites in the village.

Nature

There are sand and palm trees on the beach of Ghioroc Lake. The shoreline also includes canopy-covered sun loungers and swan-shaped pedal boats.

The beach therefore combines an open sandy area with landscaped spots by the water and the strikingly shaped pedal boats. The various elements form part of the lake’s immediate shoreline setting.

Fishing is permitted in Ghioroc Lake all year round and across the entire surface of the lake. The statutory closed season is excluded and must be taken into account when planning a fishing trip.

The fishing rule applies to the entire body of water, not just to a single section of the shore. For scheduling purposes, the statutory closed season remains the decisive exception to the year-round period.

Hiking

The Ghioroc–Valea Cladovei hiking trail has blue markings and is 6.8 kilometres long. When planning a hike, allow approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The trail has a low level of difficulty and is accessible year-round.

The route connects Ghioroc with Valea Cladovei and has a clear marker in the form of its blue trail markings. Its length and approximate duration provide the hike with a clear timeframe, while the low level of difficulty and year-round access complete the description of the trail.

Viticulture

The Muzeul Viei și al Vinului is located on the grounds of the Viticultural Research Station in Ghioroc. On the Drumul Vinului, it is one of the local attractions. The museum presents the history of viticulture and winemaking in the Miniș-Măderat wine-growing region.

The museum’s location connects Ghioroc with the region’s viticulture. The exhibition therefore focuses both on the development of viticulture and on wine production, in each case with reference to the Miniș-Măderat wine-growing region.

History

The first electrified tram line in Eastern Europe was opened in Ghioroc. At the same time, this line was the eighth electrified tram line in the world. The Electric Tram Museum was established in Ghioroc because the village held an important position in the public transport system at the time and continues to hold this position.

The history of the tram is therefore closely linked to the development of the village. Ghioroc was already an important transport location when the line opened and continues to hold this important position in the public transport system.

The museum houses a collection of electric cars from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The collection spans two centuries of electric cars and complements the history of the tram line with preserved vehicles from different eras.

The Săgeata Verde made its first journey on 1 December 1906. The old electric train of the Podgorie ran to Ghioroc and is known by the name “Săgeata Verde”.

The recorded history of this train begins with its first journey on 1 December 1906. Its connection with Ghioroc remains visible through the service of the old electric train of the Podgorie and the name “Săgeata Verde”.
