Downstream from there, the area belongs to the site classified as part of the Natura 2000 Network.

Even away from the circular trail, Vilar de Mouros offers distinctive details for a cultural exploration. The Igreja Paroquial de Vilar de Mouros consists of a rectangular nave measuring 21 × 7 metres and a square chancel measuring 6 × 6 metres. The Cruzeiro Paroquial is another feature of cultural and historical significance. The double-sided cross dates from the 17th century and depicts Christ on one side and Our Lady of Sorrows on the other. It has a round shaft, rests on a granite block and stands on five steps.

The history of the village also reaches back to the transport connections of past centuries. A medieval road that crossed the river at Vilar de Mouros connected Caminha with Valença and the Galician border. The Ponte de Vilar de Mouros has been classified as a National Monument since 1910. Its three slightly pointed arches are of different dimensions: the central arch is larger than the other two.

Festival tradition and suitable trip planning

Vilar de Mouros is the venue for the CA Vilar de Mouros festival, which is described as the oldest music festival on the Iberian Peninsula. Year after year, it renews the region’s connection with culture. The Oficina Fontes also highlights the village’s craft and agricultural past: agricultural tools such as seed drills and hoes were manufactured there and sold inland and in Galicia. The buildings are attributed to the 18th century.
