Seixas: Culture and River Landscape on the Minho

Seixas lies at the confluence of the Minho and Coura and combines a striking river landscape with vibrant local culture. A characteristic place to discover Seixas is the São Sebastião Chapel. It dates from the 17th century, stands next to the quay and is surrounded by typical 18th- and 19th-century houses. The Cruzeiro de São Sebastião is a characteristic 18th-century stone cross featuring a stone depiction of Saint Sebastian. The São Bento Chapel also shapes the appearance of the village. It stands at an elevated point in Seixas and offers a view of the mouth of the Minho. The chapel is associated with a pilgrimage and a festival that remain vibrant to this day and in which local residents and visitors take part. Monte do Gorito forms a natural amphitheatre at the foot of the Serra d’Arga, with views of the Coura and Minho rivers.
