The 750-square-metre exhibition area is divided into three sections. They focus on everyday life, death and contemplation. Interactive tables provide information about the objects on display, including some more than 6,000 years old, and also explain how archaeological excavations are carried out. This combination of tangible exhibits and accessible explanations offers families, in particular, various starting points for conversations they can share.

Several churches and historic buildings in the townscape recall different periods. The Torre do Relógio forms part of a 16th-century building that once housed the municipal administration of Mora. Today, it is home to Mora's tourist office and the municipal library. The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Graça dates from 1570. Its architectural character is described as religious and Manueline, associated with the 16th century, as well as neoclassical. Its furnishings include a baptismal font from the late 16th century.

The Igreja de Santo António de Mora was built in 1656 as a pilgrims' chapel. It consists of a nave, chancel, bell tower and sacristy. To visit it, prior registration with the tourist office of the Câmara Municipal de Mora is required. You should also plan to register in advance for the Igreja da Misericórdia de Mora: it was inaugurated in 1581, after the Misericórdia brotherhood had been founded in 1575. Its bell comes from the former Convento de S. Bento de Castris in Évora and dates back to 1391. Registration is available through the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mora or the tourist office of the Câmara Municipal de Mora.

Culture, Squares and Views

The Casa da Cultura de Mora complements the historic sights with a broad cultural offering. Its facilities include a library, an exhibition gallery, a cinema-theatre, a music school, a municipal dance school and decorative arts classes. At Praça Central Conselheiro Fernando de Sousa, you can experience another connection to the town's history: the square is located in the historic centre of Mora and commemorates the arrival of the railway in 1908.

For a change from buildings and squares to an open landscape, the Miradouro de Mora is ideal. It is located at the upper edge of Bairro da Misericórdia, at one of the highest points in Vila Mora, and offers far-reaching views. From there, you can see waterways, irrigated fields and a great variety of wild animals and plants. The Jardim Público de Mora combines green spaces with a sports-field area, a bar, toilets, a spectator stand, a children's playground and a lake. In addition, the Parque Urbano de Mora is a communal green space with leisure and sports facilities.

Special Experiences Around Mora

Craft and agricultural experiences can also form part of a possible travel programme. The experience “JVC – Por onde a madeira me leva” conveys the production process and invites visitors to take part. During the “Vista o Fato de Apicultor” experience, participants can visit an apiary, collect honey and bottle it to take home. The Pista Internacional de Pesca Desportiva de Mora is located on the Ribeira da Raia near Vila de Mora, in a natural setting. It stretches for approximately one kilometre and has 60 fishing spots. The water is between two and four metres deep, and the bottom consists of gravel and sandy areas.
