It was dedicated to the imperial cult, not to the goddess Diana.

The cathedral also tells the story of several construction phases: work began in 1186, it was consecrated in 1204 and completed in 1250. Its terrace offers a panorama over the city. The Church of São Francisco has a single-nave layout that ends in a ribbed vault with the greatest span in Portuguese Gothic architecture. The Água da Prata Aqueduct adds another historical perspective. It was inaugurated on 28 March 1537 and extends for approximately 18 km to Herdade do Divor. The Palácio de D. Access to the Anta Grande do Zambujeiro is free; since 31 October 2024, access has only been possible on foot. Évora’s traditional cuisine combines bread, pork and lamb with regional herbs such as coriander, mint, pennyroyal and oregano, as well as olive oil, garlic, onions and bay leaves. Évora also produces matured cheese with a hard or semi-hard, slightly yellowish paste and a barely perceptible rind, following the traditional cheese-making methods of the Alentejo; it is classified as a PDO product.
