Vidigueira between Vinho de Talha and Cultural Heritage

Using augmented reality, the exhibition takes visitors through the history of Vinho de Talha from Roman times to the present day. From winegrowing and production in clay amphorae to the tavern, you will also learn about the entire production cycle.

Another way to explore the winegrowing tradition is offered by Casa das Talhas in Vidigueira, with tours focusing on the traditional production of Vinho de Talha.

Vila de Frades is also part of this cultural setting. Vitifrades is usually held there in December, an annual wine and cultural event. The programme includes tastings of Vinho de Talha from local wineries, regional gastronomic specialities, cultural and musical performances, a market for regional products and handicrafts, as well as conferences and workshops. The Convento de Nossa Senhora da Assunção was founded in 1545 by D. Francisco da Gama and D. Guiomar de Vilhena. It was a monastery for men belonging to the Franciscan Order and was incorporated into the Province of Piedade. For active days, the PR1 VDG Pelas Vinhas de São Cucufate hiking trail starts in Vidigueira. The PER2 Trilhos Nossa Senhora da Guadalupe trail connects Vidigueira and Vila de Frades through vineyards and olive groves. It is signposted with information boards and is approximately 12 km long. These two trails offer different ways to experience the landscape: one starts in Vidigueira, while the other focuses on the connection between the two places and their winegrowing surroundings.

The Rota do Vinho de Talha crosses the Alentejo and has its epicentre in the Município da Vidigueira. It provides direct contact with the local landscapes, diverse culture, and thousands of years of history. The Ermida de Santo António dos Açores offers views of Vila de Frades and Vidigueira. A signposted access path begins at the EN 258, approximately opposite Vila de Frades.
