Discover Kątno on Lake Szeląg Wielki

Kątno lies on the eastern shore of Lake Szeląg Wielki. The village offers a direct connection to the lakeshore and several different ways to explore the area: a recreational beach, a pedestrian and cycle path from the DK16 to Kątno, and a cycling route that runs through the village. A described kayaking trip ends at the municipal beach. The lakeshore and recreational beach

The recreational beach gives the lakeshore connection a tangible form. It opened as a publicly accessible recreational beach with a bathing area for residents and tourists. The facilities include two bathing jetties measuring 24.50 × 2.40 metres in total, a recreational pavilion and an unpaved car park for about ten cars. A municipal description also mentions four wooden tables with benches, eight additional benches, three waste bins and a fire pit. The beach facilities thus combine a bathing area, seating and practical amenities for spending time by the water.

A recreational pier at the leisure complex was also renovated in 2023; the municipal project was named the Elbląg Canal Trail.

Routes through and to Kątno

A pedestrian and cycle path about 1,560 metres long connects the DK16 national road with Kątno. The municipality announced its completion on 4 April 2024. For planning a walk or bike ride, this is a clearly identified route between the road and the village. The Olsztyn–Stare Jabłonki cycling route, which runs through Kątno, is a separate route. If you plan to include it in your trip, check current conditions and signage before setting off.

The two cycling connections answer different planning questions: the pedestrian and cycle path connects the DK16 with the village, while the Olsztyn–Stare Jabłonki route passes through Kątno. This helps you decide whether your focus is getting to the village or riding a longer route.

A kayaking trip with Kątno as its destination

A June 2019 travel account describes a 12.5-kilometre kayaking trip from the Ostróda lock to the municipal beach in Kątno. The two routes therefore give the village different roles: the cycling route passes through Kątno, while the described water route ends here.
