Wopity: Historic Routes and Village History

Wopity is a small village in the municipality of Rychliki, near the former Rejsyty estate. Its local history unfolds along old trade routes, a railway line and changing names. In the southern part of the village was Skarpeta (Strömpchen), at a historic crossroads; lime trees lined an old road in the direction of Giśle (Geißeln) and Kiersyty (Kerschitten). Lime Trees and Earlier Outings

The old road from Wopity toward Giśle (Geißeln) and Kiersyty (Kerschitten) also tells another side of the village’s history. It was lined with monumental lime trees, some of which are said to have survived to this day. In the past, their dense crowns formed a cool, tunnel-like passage in summer. Until 1945, the village was called Opitten. After the war, it was colloquially known as “Opijowo” until around 1948; later, it was called Wopity. Keeping the names distinct helps place the village name, crossroads and former transport connections as separate parts of local history.
