Nowa Wieś lies on Lake Rumian, the largest body of water in Welski Landscape Park. The lake covers almost 300 hectares and gives the place a clear connection to its landscape: water, shoreline and views are among its defining features. If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Nowa Wies, you might first consider whether your stay will be shaped more by relaxing by the water, cycling, or the natural and cultural history of the surrounding area.

Lake, bathing area and views

Nowa Wieś on Lake Rumian has a beach and a bathing area. A hill in the village offers a panoramic view of the lake. The views from the steep shore near Nowa Wieś are also among the most interesting in Welski Landscape Park. Together, these spots reveal different aspects of the landscape: the view from above, the shoreline and access to the bathing waters. They provide concrete points of reference as you consider which surroundings you would most like to explore on holiday.

Cycling through a glacial landscape

The 26-kilometre “Around Lake Rumian” cycling route passes through Nowa Wieś. Along the way, the varied, strongly undulating glacial landscape and cultural and religious monuments shape the route. The route is not signposted or marked on the ground. Take this into account when planning your trip and familiarise yourself with the route beforehand. Its length and lack of markings are important details, whether you are considering cycling one section or making the route a major focus of your trip.

When choosing accommodation for a cycling holiday, you can take its connection to the village and the route into account. Nowa Wieś is one of the places the route passes through. You do not have to combine the cycling route with a trip to the shoreline viewpoints: the lake and the route offer different perspectives on the area, and either can shape the character of a day of your holiday.

Water and seasonal amenities

A water sports equipment rental service operates in Nowa Wieś during the holiday season. There is also a grocery store in the village during the holiday season. Both amenities are seasonal and may play a role in choosing when to travel. There is also a leisure centre in Nowa Wieś. These local features add to the picture of a lakeside destination, while the beach, bathing area and rental service are distinct offerings: each provides a different connection to the water.

Nature and culture in the surrounding area

Lake Rumian serves as a refuge for waterbirds, including the goosander, great crested grebe, red-necked grebe, mallard, mute swan, pochard and coot. This diversity of species gives the lake another notable feature besides its size. The highest point in Welski Landscape Park, at 210 metres above sea level, is also located near Nowa Wieś.

The ruins of St Barbara’s Church in Szczupliny are a worthwhile destination for a cultural history excursion. The church building, erected around 1400, survives there as a ruin. The remains include part of the brick tower and grave surrounds in the cemetery dating from the second half of the 19th century. This historic site and the cultural and religious monuments along the cycling route add a distinct historical focus to the nature experiences.
