Działdowo combines a clearly defined city history with opportunities to actively explore the surrounding area. The Teutonic Order, a Gothic castle wing with a museum, and churches from different building periods offer points of interest for cultural history. Four signposted cycling routes also run around the city. This gives you two distinct focuses to choose from when planning your trip: time to explore architectural and city history, or days spent cycling.

Castle and churches: distinct historical periods

The Teutonic Order built the first defensive structure in the area of Działdowo in 1306. The Muzeum Pogranicza is located in the Gothic wing of the Teutonic castle, at 12 Zamkowa Street. Since September 2018, visitors have been able to see the exhibition “Działdowo – miasto i ludzie dawnego pogranicza” in the castle. If you plan to visit the museum, check the latest visitor information before your trip.

The churches also mark different historical periods. St. Adalbert’s Church was built in 1862 in the Neo-Gothic style. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is considered the oldest church in the city; its foundations date back to the Middle Ages. Comparing them highlights two different historical references: a precisely dated 19th-century building and medieval foundations. The Neo-Gothic design draws on Gothic forms, while the foundations of the oldest church point to an earlier layer of construction.

Cycling routes and exploring the city

Four signposted, colour-coded cycling routes run around Działdowo. Information boards supplement them with local stories and route maps. This brings navigation and local themes together along the way. When choosing a route, the maps and information about local stories can help with your planning. Check local route conditions before setting off.

In April 2026, a guided city tour with a museum guide was newly introduced. A speaker and a museum employee supplemented the walk with stories about important places and sights in the city. Without a code, only one of the 15 possible routes was available. If you plan to take this tour, check the latest information about the offer and access requirements before your trip.

Plan your journey and holiday apartment to suit your trip

Działdowo railway station is on a busy main railway line, with regular trains running between Warsaw and Gdańsk. Check the timetable for your travel date when planning your journey. This provides a starting point for your planning without dictating how your stay will unfold: the historic sites, the city tour described above, and the cycling routes each offer a different focus.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Działdowo, you can start by considering what kind of days you would like to plan. If city history is your priority, the castle, museum, and churches offer suitable themes for your trip. If you would rather spend time cycling, factor the four signposted routes and local route conditions into your plans.
