Koczała: Lakes, Cycling Routes and History
Accommodation in Koczała
Lake Dymno, varied cycling routes and historic buildings give Koczała many different facets. The municipality is home to a lake with notable depth measurements and a special ecological classification. In Koczała itself, sacred architecture, traces from the 19th century and cycling routes come together. You can shape your stay around the water, outdoor activities or local history.
Lake Dymno and Koczała Camp
Lake Dymno in the municipality of Koczała covers 68.22 hectares. Its maximum depth is 18.0 metres and its average depth is 7.0 metres. It is a charophyte lake: charophyte macroalgae cover its bottom. In 2009, it was included in the Natura 2000 network under the name “Jezioro Dymno.” These measurements describe the lake from two perspectives, while its ecological classification adds to its distinctive character.
Koczała Camp, a municipal recreation and leisure complex, is located by the lake in Koczała. Its beach is made up of sand and grass and is supervised during the summer holidays. Koczała Camp is also in a Natura 2000 area. By the shore, there is a rest area with benches, tables and waste bins; at the campsite, there is a shelter with a fire pit. The places by the water described here offer different features: the rest area has places to sit, while the shelter provides a protected spot with a fire pit. Before your visit, check the seasonal beach rules and current conditions to help plan your trip.
Cycling Routes of Different Lengths
Several cycling routes offer practical ways to explore the surrounding area on two wheels. Two routes start on Akacjowa Street in Koczale: the 10-kilometre Trasa Bobrowa runs through Działek and Niedźwiady to the municipal boundary between Koczała and Przechlewo. The 16-kilometre Jelenia cycle route also starts there and runs through Działek, Załęże, Zapadłe and Stara Brda Pilska to the same municipal boundary. The shared starting street and initial stretch through Działek make the routes easy to compare; after that, they differ in length and course.
Another cycling route is 11 kilometres long. It runs from the boundary between the municipalities of Koczała and Przechlewo, via Człuchowska and Polna Streets in Koczale, to Płocicz. The 26-kilometre Szafirowy Szlak runs from Szkolna and Spacerowa Streets in Koczale through Dymin, Dźwierzno, Starzno and Ostrówek, and back to Koczala. In Koczala, it runs along Sportowa, Miastecka and Szkolna Streets. Lake Dymno is one of the attractions along this route. This gives you routes ranging from 10 to 26 kilometres, including two that start on Akacjowa Street and one circular route. Check current trail conditions before setting off.
Church and Historic Traces
The parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Koczale is a listed masonry building of religious architecture. It was built in 1901–1902 in the Neo-Romanesque and Gothic styles. The combination of these two style descriptions gives the building its distinctive architectural character. Another historic date takes us further back: an old house on Południowa Street dates from 1830, making it older than the church. There are also historic gravestones in a cemetery in Koczale. These buildings and traces offer a cultural counterpoint to a day by the lake or out cycling.
Choose the Right Focus for Your Holiday
When looking for a holiday apartment in Koczała, you can start by considering what you want your holiday to centre on: time at Lake Dymno, one of the cycling tours of varying lengths, or the area’s architectural and local history. The route lengths help you distinguish between cycling plans; the historical sights offer a different focus from an active day out.
