Olszowa: Wooden Church, Sacred Miniature Park and Cycling Routes

Olszowa combines a historic wooden church with a Sacred Miniature Park, where water-based and active pursuits come together. The village lies in the buffer zone of the “Góra Świętej Anny” Landscape Park and on the edge of a Natura 2000 site. Culture, park activities and cycling routes offer different ways to shape your stay.

A wooden church with several architectural styles

The wooden Church of Our Lady of the Snows dates back to 1679 and was altered in 1748. It has Baroque features and is built using log construction; its tower is built using post-and-beam construction. The foundation is made of stone and brick. The different construction methods also make the church interesting for visitors who are interested in traditional wooden architecture.

Inside is a Baroque main altar with a contemporary painting of the Adoration of Our Lady of the Snows. The Baroque side altars include 18th-century paintings as well as contemporary paintings. The Neoclassical pulpit depicts the four Evangelists; there is also a folk-style sculpture of the Sorrowful Christ. This allows visitors to see Baroque altars and Neoclassical design within the same church.

Water and play activities at the Sacred Miniature Park

Pedal boats can be rented for trips on a small pond in the park. Check with the operator before your visit to find out whether these activities are available. The treetop adventure park includes tree houses, rope obstacles, swings and a slide, as well as two zip lines: a smaller one for younger children and a larger one for children aged 3 to 13.

Other outdoor attractions for children include floorball, ball mazes, skittles, magic mirrors and a pontoon slide. Alongside the water-based activities, there are also a variety of play and active pursuits. If you are travelling with children, the age ranges given for the zip lines can be a helpful guide; check with the operator in advance about the availability of individual park activities.

The complex also includes buildings belonging to a stud farm founded by Count Renard. The buildings date from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, adding a historical aspect to a visit.

Cycling routes with different characteristics

The 2011 municipal route descriptions list yellow-marked cycle route 16, which passes through Olszowa and by the wooden church. Red-marked route 172 runs along side roads through Wiśni Jar and past Wapiennik. It rejoins route 16 at the church. Before setting out, check the current route markings and path conditions.

A description published in 2021 also lists a 16 km alternative off-road cycling route from Olszowa to Leśnica, which can also be ridden on touring and recreational bikes. A separate 11.9 km alternative is described as rough and intended for off-road cycling. This distinction can help you choose a route: the 16 km route is also suitable for touring and recreational bikes, while the separate, shorter option is rougher.
