Grodzisko is considered one of the oldest settlements in the Ziemia Strzelecka area. This is indicated by archaeological finds from the Neolithic period dating from 4200 to 1700 BC. An enclosed settlement was already located here in the Early Middle Ages; the place name Grodzisko means “destroyed castle”.

Culture and History
The parish church of St Catherine in Grodzisko is registered as a historic building under registration number 1132/66; the records state the years 1812 and 1924. The present parish church dates from 1812; a sacristy and a chapel were added on its northern side in 1924. The church was mentioned as early as 1516 and had side altars dedicated to Saint Valentine and Saint Mary Magdalene.
In the districts of Rozmierz, Grodzisko and Kadłub, heart-shaped grains of wheat are sown together with a cross. This tradition was added to the national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2020. Every year on 14 February, the St Valentine’s indulgence takes place in the area around Grodzisko, attracting pilgrims from neighbouring villages.
The collection at the local heritage room in Grodzisko includes a parish room, several village rooms and a room from the period of the Polish People’s Republic, the PRL. Grodzisko also received a membership certificate from the “Opolskie Izby Dziedzictwa Wsi” network. A tourist map has been created or announced for these locations.
