Blacksmithing, an unusual historic defensive complex, and routes of very different lengths give Wojciechów a distinctive character. You can explore architectural history and craftsmanship, plan a short Nordic walking loop, or consider longer hiking and cycling routes. There is also an animal park on the edge of the village. Blacksmithing and architectural history
The Wieża Ariańska is a defensive and residential building commissioned by the Lublin starost J. Pilecki between 1520 and 1530. The tower complex houses the Muzeum Kowalstwa, described as Poland’s only blacksmithing museum. Here, a 16th-century building and a museum devoted specifically to blacksmithing come together.
Next to the Wieża Ariańska, the Aleja Zasłużonych Kowali opened in 2019. It is adorned with a series of railings made as part of an artistic blacksmithing competition. The late Baroque wooden Church of Saint Theodore, built in 1725, adds another historic touch. The buildings and artistic metalwork showcase different facets of Wojciechów’s history and design.
A visit to Kuźnia Romana Czernieca includes a tour of a workshop where agricultural equipment is repaired, horses are shod, and artistic metalwork is forged by hand. In Wojciechów, the Szlak Ginących Zawodów connects the Muzeum Kowalstwa with the forge, where horseshoe forging is demonstrated. In the gallery next to the forge, you can view the blacksmith’s work and buy lucky horseshoes and other items he has made.
A short loop or a long route?
The green Nordic walking loop starts in Wojciechów. The four-kilometre route is estimated to take one hour. That is a different time commitment from the two longer routes that pass through the village.
The red-marked western upland hiking trail is 60 kilometres long and runs from Kazimierz Dolny to Lublin via Wojciechów. The also-red-marked Lublin–Kazimierz Dolny cycling route covers 62 kilometres and likewise passes through the village. The distances make it easy to compare the routes: the two trails of 60 and 62 kilometres stand in contrast to a loop of about one hour. Wildlife nearby
On the edge of Wojciechów lies the four-hectare ZOO Wojciechów. It is home to several dozen exotic animal species: lions, pumas, kangaroos, camels, donkeys, llamas, and alpacas, as well as various kinds of goats and sheep and numerous water and land birds. There is a large playground for children. A spacious relaxation area with tables and benches, as well as a fire pit, is also available. The wildlife and these facilities offer a distinct focus alongside blacksmithing and the routes.
