The Chapel by the Pond: Oral Tradition and Reconstruction
According to oral accounts from the oldest residents of Uniszowice, the chapel by the pond was built in 1812 after Napoleon’s troops passed through on their way to Russia. Its origins are recounted as a local oral tradition. For culturally minded travellers, this connection between local history and the Napoleonic era is a particularly distinctive point of interest.
In 1989, the Kapliczka na wodzie in Uniszowicach stood on a small island in a pond. The round, brick-built chapel was surrounded by silver firs, and a wooden footbridge led to the island. The water, island, trees and footbridge bring the layout of the site at that time to life. Thus, alongside the founding story, there is a second historical perspective that describes what the place looked like at the time.
The Kapliczka na wodzie was reconstructed in August and September 2015. It was funded solely by donations from residents of Uniszowice and the surrounding area. As well as its orally transmitted origins, the chapel’s story therefore also speaks of community support in more recent times.

Figura Świętych w Uniszowicach is a roadside chapel featuring figures of saints. It offers a different focus from the chapel by the pond: here, the figures of saints take centre stage rather than the founding story and the chapel’s former location. The two chapels thus represent different cultural-historical themes: one is associated with local tradition, the other with religious imagery.
Cycling Through the Municipality
The cycling route through the municipality of Konopnica passes through Uniszowice and is 29.4 kilometres long in total. It runs mainly on asphalt. Near the sports airfield in Radawiec, the route follows a field track; in Stary Gaj, it runs along a forest track. The elevation along the entire route ranges from 176 to 243 metres above sea level.
