Limanowa

Limanowa lies in a small hollow surrounded by the mountains of the Beskid Wyspowy. Cultural attractions and a varied city park meet in the town, along with a cycling route that starts and ends in Limanowa. Limanowa also offers a range of options for cycling enthusiasts. The cycling skills centre covers 1,191 square metres of paved tracks and cycle paths. A cycling route of around 25 kilometres also starts and ends in the town. It passes through Jabłoniec and Golców and visits two military cemeteries. Culture and History in Limanowa

The Regional Museum of the Limanowa area is housed in the historic manor of the Mars family. The Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows in the town also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May. Limanowa’s Little Calvary is next to the basilica. It includes a monumental altar, a Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Stations of the Cross. Every year, on the first Sunday after 22 September, a procession goes from the basilica to the Chapel of Grace. It includes a shell-shaped mausoleum as well as the graves of 161 Austro-Hungarian soldiers, one German soldier and 247 Russian soldiers. The Church of All Saints in Łososina Górna also preserves specific historic artefacts: a Gothic stone baptismal font dating from 1535 and a bronze bell called “Saint Andrew” from 1520.

Excursions in the Wider Area

The Wooden Architecture Route passes through Beskid villages in the Limanowa area and includes historic churches and manor houses in the landscape. The Limanowa County has 36 hiking trails; some can also be used for cycling, horse riding or cross-country skiing with appropriate adjustments. Mogielica is the highest peak in the Beskid Wyspowy. The “Mogielica” nature reserve and a 22-metre-high observation tower are located near its summit.

A distinctive regional attraction is the mineral water pump room in Szczawa. Highly mineralised bicarbonate-chloride-sodium waters are drawn there from the three springs “Szczawa I”, “Hanna” and “Dziedzilla”. Nature, trails, architecture and water offer different themes for excursions in the area.
