Czchów: Market Square, Nature Trail and Castle Ruins

Market Square and Traces of the City's History

Streets branch off from the corners of Czchów's market square, and a church stands at the southeast corner. In the Middle Ages, the Hungarian route passed through the square, where fairs and other important events were held at the time. Here, the square's historical role as a gathering place meets details that recall the city's history. Beneath the sculpture of Saint Florian is a Romanesque lion from Czchów's first church. On the north side, six of the original 20 arcaded houses remain; they were rebuilt after the great fire of 1947.
