Wąbrzeźno lies between three lakes and in green surroundings. The historic settlement developed on an isthmus between Lake Sicieńskie and Lake Zamkowe (“Castle lake”). The ruins of the Castle of the Bishops of Chełmno stand on Lake Zamkowe; the Gothic castle was built on the elevated edge of a peninsula in the lake. The area has a medieval historical connection with the Kulmer Land and Poland.
