Dakowy Mokre

Dakowy Mokre brings together several distinct chapters of its local history: a Neo-Romanesque church, a manor house with an H-shaped floor plan added later, and traces of a landscape park. An early medieval ring fort site is another historic feature of the village. Church of Saint Catherine

The Church of Saint Catherine was built between 1901 and 1904. Its Neo-Romanesque style and tower with a slender spire give the building a distinctive architectural character. The main altar contains a copy of Raphael’s “Sistine Madonna.” Plaques commemorating 31 victims of the Second World War and the Dokowski family are set into the exterior walls; there is also an epitaph there for the priest Stanisław Wyrwicki. Architecture, religious art and personal remembrance stand side by side here as distinct aspects.

Manor house and landscape park

The manor house complex was built around 1880. Wings with upper storeys were added in 1912–1913, giving the building its H-shaped floor plan. There is a semicircular columned porch on the north side and a square one on the south side. The contrasting forms and the expansion of the floor plan make the complex’s building history tangible, while keeping its individual parts distinct. A smithy, a stable and two barns stand north of the manor house.

A 3.05-hectare remnant of a landscape park has been preserved around the manor house. Its recorded features include an avenue of hornbeams. The park dates from the second half of the 19th century, adding a distinct period to the history of the manor house. Dakowy Mokre is also home to an early medieval ring fort site, entered in the register of monuments on 9 December 1974 under number 1639/A. The Oficyna is another historic building in the village: it is a residential building dating from around the turn of the 20th century.

Local history and customs

On 26 June 2024, a workshop was held in a clearing beside the pond in Dakowy Mokre. Customs associated with Midsummer’s Eve were presented, and participants made wreaths together. They could sample homemade pastries, coffee and refreshing lemonade. The event took place on this specific date; it adds an example of a shared cultural activity to the architectural heritage, with a local tradition and a practical craft at its heart.
