Inderøy combines art and history with farm products and experiences by the water. In Straumen, you can encounter sculptures at Muustrøparken and the art of Nils Aas; elsewhere, beaches, hiking trails and regional produce are among the highlights of a stay. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore important to first decide whether you want to spend your days mainly exploring culture, enjoying outdoor activities or sampling local products.

Art and History in Inderøy

Muustrøparken is in the centre of Straumen, by the Granaelva River. It features eleven sculptures by the sculptor Nils Aas. The Nils Aas Art Workshop in Straumen adds to the experience with an art collection that Aas curated himself. Visitors can work with different materials in the workshop on site. This offers several ways to engage with art: sculptures in the park, a collection and the opportunity to create your own work in the workshop.

The Hustad Church, set in Inderøy’s cultural landscape, is another cultural highlight. It dates from the mid-12th century. It is surrounded by Kjerkeplanken, a log-built fence that is rare in Norway. Visitors interested in historic architecture will find not only an old church here but also a remarkable architectural detail. This makes it easy to focus your holiday on art and history, while exploring cultural sites that each offer something different.

Beaches, Trails and Outdoor Activities

Sundsand is a recreation area with a shallow sandy beach, hiking trails, a playground and three sand volleyball courts. These different facilities offer several ways to spend the day: relaxing on the beach, walking the trails or playing a round of volleyball. The playground is another feature families may wish to consider when choosing places to visit.

There are also opportunities to spend time outdoors around Kjerknesvågen Kai. The surrounding area has beaches and swimming spots, as well as fishing opportunities and several hiking trails. There is a guest harbour and a summer kiosk right at the quay. The boat “Jekta Pauline” is also moored there. If you are interested in being on the water, fishing or hiking, you can take these into account when deciding what you want your stay to include.

Farm Products and Local Drinks

In Sandvollan, Gangstad Gårdsysteri runs a farm shop all year round. Visitors can sample and buy the farm’s award-winning cheeses and ice cream there. In summer, coffee and farm ice cream are served in the farmyard; in July, a farm platter is also available. The offerings therefore vary by season: the farm shop is a year-round destination for cheese and ice cream, while coffee and the farm platter are available during the specified summer and July periods.

At Berg Gård, Inderøy Brenneri offers bookable aquavit tastings with a guided tour. The distillery makes barrel-aged aquavit using its own caraway and regional ingredients. Inderøy Gårdsbryggeri hosts beer tastings for groups and pub nights at Bryggeriloftet. Its range includes craft beer, mead and apple juice; the brewery uses its own malt and hops to make them. Together, these offer different insights into regional drinks: aquavit made with caraway and regional ingredients, and products from a brewery that uses its own malt and hops.

Getting There and Choosing Where to Stay

A cycling experience along the Golden Road combines train travel to Sparbu or Røra with bike hire and luggage transfer. If this combination might suit your trip, you can take it into account when planning your journey.
