Accommodation in Brattvåg
Brattvåg offers several reasons to explore the village and its surroundings: a historic home in the heart of the village, hikes to scenic viewpoints and a ferry connection to Dryna. The experiences that interest you most can shape your travel plans—from learning about the village’s history to exploring trails with different viewpoints.
The Skjelt-Iverhuset is listed as Cultural Heritage Site No. 27. It was the first residential house in Brattvåg and was used as a post office. The complete and authentic farmstead is located in the heart of the village. Alongside the hikes, it offers a specific place to explore Brattvåg’s history.
Hikes with a range of views
The hike to Hildrehesten starts at the dam at the northern end of Synnalandsvatnet in Brattvåg. From the summit, the view extends to the Nordøyane islands and the shipping route, as well as Hildre, Alvestad, Brattvåg and Hellandshamn. If you enjoy taking in several places and the shipping route on a hike, the viewpoint here encompasses both.
A hike from Brattvåg crosses Ryssdalsheia, also known as Fremste Synnalandsheia. There are different options for the return journey: a circular route goes via Ryssdalstjønnene and Dyrstigen back to Synnalandsvatnet. Alternatively, the trail goes via Ryssdal and rejoins the original path. These options make the route a specific point to consider when planning your day.
A short, easily accessible hike leads to Synnalandshornet. From there, you can see across Brattvåg and Helland, towards the Nordøyane islands and into Romsdalsfjord. If you are looking for a shorter hike with these viewpoints, it differs from the Hildrehesten hike, whose summit view also takes in the shipping route and other places.
The hike to Samhjartet/Tinden initially follows the water through Synnalandsdalen. It passes Gjersetdalen Wilderness Area and the Red Cross cabin before climbing to Samhjartet/Tinden. The route described thus links a section beside the water with a later ascent; it offers a different focus from the view from Synnalandshornet.
At Silhuset, a gravel road leads all the way to the building. There is a picnic table with benches there. These are useful landmarks if Silhuset is part of your exploration of Brattvåg.
