Haram
Accommodation in Haram
Haram combines a remarkable local history with hiking and leisure opportunities nearby. Its traces range from a former church site to an archaeological find from the Iron Age. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Haram, you can choose your location based on whether you mainly want to discover the area's history or also explore what the surrounding area has to offer.
Church history and Haramsfunnet
Haram's first church was built on the Haram farm in the 12th century. It was a small stave church situated right by the sea. When the church was built in 1838, the church site was moved from Haram to Austnes. Today, the former church site is marked by a memorial stone and a park. It is automatically protected as Cultural Monument No. 17. Both the former location and the move to Austnes therefore tell the story of the church.
Another historical trace is Haramsfunnet: this archaeological find dates from the Iron Age and was discovered in Haram. Haramsfunnet is one of the richest grave finds from the Roman Iron Age (AD 0–400) in Norway. Those interested in cultural history will find a tangible link here to the area's past, distinct from the history of the church site.

Hikes also offer a variety of experiences. The path to Ulla Fyr follows a gravel road all the way and is also accessible to wheelchair users. Stormyrhytta and Haramsøya
The path to Stormyrhytta leads through the forest and offers several viewpoints. During the summer months, you can go canoeing near the cabin. Stormyrhytta is also used for social gatherings and games. The area around the cabin is home to a diverse range of birdlife. At the end of the trail to Røhammaren, Stormyrhytta provides access to a kayak, a toilet, and a fire pit.
Haramsøya is connected to the mainland via the Haramsfjordtunnelen. The subsea road tunnel between Hestøya and Haramsøya opened in 2021. If you are considering accommodation in the area, you can take this connection into account alongside your planned activities when choosing a location.
