One of the most striking buildings is the Nobelpoort, an imposing medieval town gate dating from the 14th century. It is one of Zierikzee’s three surviving town gates. The Sint-Lievensmonstertoren is also known as the Dikke Toren and is 62 metres high. Construction began in 1454 and was halted around 1510. Anyone who climbs the tower can ascend 278 steps to a height of 62 metres and enjoy far-reaching views over Zierikzee, the Oosterschelde and the Zeelandbrug. When walking through Zierikzee, you can plan the Nobelpoort and the Dikke Toren as two different stops during the same visit to the town.
