Holiday Apartment in Sint Maartensbrug: Art, Canal and Polder
Accommodation in Sint Maartensbrug
Sint Maartensbrug brings together several aspects in travel planning: historical water management, art and regional attractions shape the area. Around the village, there are tangible traces along the canal and in the polder, as well as exhibitions, an art route, a distinctive bridge and several beach access points nearby.

Historical Traces at Grote Sloot and the Polder
The Noorder G, an octagonal windmill probably built in the second half of the 17th century, is located near Sint Maartensbrug. Its historical function can be described precisely: the Noorder G drained the 205-hectare N-G section of the Zijpe and Hazepolder into the Schermerboezem.
The Grote Sloot is a rustic canal running from north to south. Villages such as Burgerbrug, Schagerbrug and Oudesluis lie on both sides. The north–south course and the villages give the area a clear landscape character that connects well with the historical polder theme.
The Stolpbrug crosses the Grote Sloot. This wooden pedestrian bridge is designed in the form of a stolp, a traditional type of farmhouse, and was built in 1997. The bridge also has a stage for music and other performances. This structure thus brings together traditional design language and a deliberately designated space for performances.
Art, Exhibitions and Special Moments
The church at Grote Sloot 233 was built in 1696. In the center of Sint Maartensbrug, a church serves as an exhibition space for various exhibitions by professional artists. The cultural spectrum therefore ranges from historic ecclesiastical architecture to changing art presentations.
The annual Zijpe Art Route passes through Sint Maartensbrug. At Theetuin Dapper in Sint Maartensbrug, a high tea can be reserved among ponies. These two destinations offer different experiences: the art route leads through the village, while the high tea combines a single visit with an unusual setting.
From Sint Maartensbrug, visitors can take a circular tour through the Zijperpolder. The tour complements the historical and artistic impressions with an experience of the landscape and makes the polder itself an independent part of the day’s itinerary.
Other Destinations in the Area
