Holiday apartment in ’t Zand – Mills, Water and Flower Bulb Fields
Accommodation in 't Zand
Holiday apartment in ’t Zand between mills and water
’t Zand is located on the broad, navigable waters of the canal. The village can be reached via a typical North Holland floating Vlotbrug bridge. Every spring, the flower bulb fields around ’t Zand glow in shades of pink, purple and red. For your travel planning, this means a landscape that varies by season and focus, from waterways to colourful fields.
Mills tell the story of the village
Several mills give ’t Zand a distinctive historic profile. The Molen PV at Korte Belkmerweg 36 in ’t Zand is a Rijksmonument, a polder mill dating from around 1597. The Molen OT at Korte Belkmerweg 10 in ’t Zand is a 17th-century water mill that drains sections O and T of the Zijpe. The Korenmolen De Hoop was moved to Molenpad in ’t Zand in 1865 and served there as a grain mill until 1920. Jagerslust was set up to provide overnight accommodation for travellers.
Korenmolen De Hoop has been open to visitors since 2013. From 1 April to 5 October, it is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 pm; in July and August, it is also open on Fridays from 1 to 5 pm. By appointment, the mill also receives groups at other times, with a guide explaining the mill. Occasionally, wheat is milled there into flour, which is sold in the shop.
Church and historic duck decoy
The parish church Onze Lieve Vrouw Visitatie was built in 1863 and designed by Leiden architect Th. Molkenboer. Since 2000, the church has been listed as a municipal monument of Zijpe. This gives ’t Zand, alongside its mills, another tangible destination for anyone wishing to combine local history and architectural heritage.
The Eendenkooi ’t Zand is a historic site more than 400 years old and a well-preserved example of a duck decoy. Landschap Noord-Holland has carefully restored it to its original condition. Its long history and preserved character make it an independent landscape and cultural feature of the village.
Cycling route and choice of accommodation
Molen P-V is also one of the area’s notable mill stops: since its restoration, it has regularly been operated by volunteers. The Skitterend Skagen cycling route is 34.8 km long and passes through ’t Zand. The route length provides a clear planning benchmark for an active day on holiday, while the mills, church and Eendenkooi offer different points of focus.
When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you would like to focus your stay mainly on local history, landscape and nature, or on a longer cycling tour.
